Guichemerre approached the project as a landscape to be composed: a setback placement, preservation of dense vegetation around the perimeter, and opening up the site at its center to capture light. Influenced by the American architecture of Neutra and Wright, while incorporating vernacular elements of the Landes region, the house exemplifies a critical regionalist current specific to this period. Conceived as an ideal holiday home, it prioritizes a free and organic lifestyle, where the interior flows naturally into the garden. Even today, it retains this unique identity, at once discreet, open, and deeply rooted in its landscape.

Guéthary - A Contemporary Interpretation of a Neo-Basque House. In a quiet residential street in the heart of the village of Guéthary, this Neo-Basque house, built in 1987, has been reimagined over time with a more refined, open, and fluid design. Its architecture embraces local style: a double-pitched roof, white render, and dark shutters, while offering a decidedly contemporary interior layout. From the entrance, the house reveals a sequence of volumes articulated around the southwest light. The dining room, wide open, captures the late afternoon rays and naturally extends the space towards the terrace and swimming pool. The windows blur the boundary between inside and outside: the house breathes, stretches towards the garden, and lives in harmony with the sun. The living room, set back from the street, creates a more intimate setting. A wood-burning stove, indirect lighting, and enveloping materials create a cozy space, conceived as a winter refuge, in deliberate contrast to the summer openness of the reception rooms. On the ground floor, an office and a master bedroom with an en-suite shower room and dressing room complete this level. Upstairs, the layout prioritizes perspective and natural light. The bedrooms are nestled into the sloping roof, bathed in light, some offering glimpses of the ocean, a discreet yet constant presence of the maritime landscape. On the garden level, an independent studio introduces a different rhythm: a self-contained space for entertaining, working, or creating, it extends the architectural flexibility of the entire property.
