It belonged to the Benedictine nuns of Nevers, who owned forge mills on the Sardolle, a small river that runs through the property. The presence of slag (siliceous residue from the forge) in the soil around the river attests to the mill's long history of activity. The estate was seized during the Revolution and sold to a notary at the beginning of the 19th century. In 1861, following an epidemic of malaria, all the ponds in the south of the Nivernais plateau were drained and the mills came to a halt. An adjoining locality is called 'l'Étang' and an old dyke, now planted with an elegant mall of lime trees, can still be seen on the property.<BR><BR>- The manor : <BR><BR>After crossing small country roads and a hamlet with a beautiful Romanesque chapel, the property is accessed via a small valley along a path recently planted with a mall of tulip trees. You have to cross an old stone bridge under which the small river flows to reach the manor. The mill is built on a square plan with a tower on the main façade topped by a lantern.<BR>Numerous mullioned windows testify to its age, and the facades are currently of jointed exposed stone, with ashlar corners and window towers.<BR>The manor house is accessed via the square tower. An entrance hall with a winding wooden stairway leads to a large dining room-library with low panelling and a Louis XV stone fireplace, followed by a large 46 sqm lounge with large picture windows overlooking the garden. There is also low panelling and another Louis XV wood-burning stove with an insert, topped by a panelled overmantel.<BR>Continuing on, there is a fully-equipped kitchen that opens onto a conservatory/dining room, leading to the garden.
